"...I'd like to add my word of support for Bremex. This club has been around for a while but has recently seen renewed commitment from its organisers, and really does offer great opportunities for "CPD" or "further experience and training" as we tend to say in the MLT literature."

Steve Long, MLTUK Chief Officer

Weekend update

Bremex Mountaineering and Climbing Club

Bremex Mountaineering and Climbing Club is a BMC-affiliated club which is planning to do things a little differently. Its aim is not just to provide a structure for hillwalking, mountaineering and climbing, but to provide an inspirational and welcoming setting for people who specifically want to practise, improve and share the skills involved in those activities. Weekend meets are spread nationally, from Dartmoor to Scotland

There are no formal, instructed courses or evening lectures, but there are organised weekends of led groups and peer group workshops whose focus is to provide opportunities to learn and practise skills, be this poor visibility/night navigation, climbing, scrambling, high-camping/bivvying or whatever. Bremex MCC also welcome novices, who want to come along, get involved long-term and gain from the knowledge of its more experienced members.

There are four levels of membership, full, associate, social and junior, plus like many other BMC-affiliated clubs, taster weekends for those who want to see how it works.

Summary

  • A BMC-affiliated club
  • Provision of a structure for hillwalking, mountaineering and climbing
  • National meets throughout the country
